The Process of Alcohol Detox and Treatment

Getting help for an alcohol addiction doesn’t have to be complicated. It generally consists of a two-part process. The first part is participating in a PBI alcohol detox, and the next is seeking treatment. These are both vital to your success in staying sober long term. You must take care of your body’s addiction and then also deal with your mental and emotional addiction.

Detoxification

The physical addiction needs to be addressed first. If you are going through withdrawals all through your treatment program, you won’t be in a great state of mind to really take in the information necessary to make changes in your life. Alcohol detox should be done under the care of medical professionals. The withdrawal symptoms experienced during detox can be scary and harmful to your body at times if you aren’t closely monitored. Some things you can expect include cravings, nausea, anxiety, sweats, and mood swings. Detoxification will usually take around 4-7 days but may take longer for some people. During this time, your body will rid itself of the toxins your alcohol intake has put there. Once your body recovers from the withdrawals, you are ready to tackle your mental and emotional addiction.

Treatment

Some people feel that going through detox is a good alternative for treatment. Unfortunately, they are missing a main concept. Treatment is to help you regain control of your life. This also means learning how to move forward in life without needing alcohol. This means learning how to change your negative thinking patterns. It also means learning about your triggers and what you need to do in order to stay away from them. Treatment will include therapy. You may participate in individual therapy, group therapy, and even family therapy during this time. It is important that you open up and participate honestly in therapy. Your treatment won’t be as successful if you are guarded or pessimistic about your success. When you go through PBI alcohol detox and then successfully complete treatment, you are much less likely to relapse. You will have taken care of your whole self, including both the mind and the body.

Making the Job Easier with Home Inventory Software

In one split second, your whole world could change. Survivors of natural disasters and societal upheavals will tell you that it’s not the possessions that matter so much in the long run as the safety and well-being of the people you love. That is very true. But possessions also make your life far easier, and if you are being responsible and planning for possible negative outcomes to your home, a home inventory is essential. Should you be the victim of something as sudden as a natural disaster or as torturous as theft, an inventory of all your possessions is necessary for your insurance claim. Home inventory software takes a tedious job and makes it much more fun and easy to accomplish. Here are a few tips to getting started.

Assemble Your Supplies

Clear your schedule for a few hours and eat a good breakfast. Then round up your camera or smart phone, a clip-board, and a pencil. If you have a laptop or tablet, load up the software so you can bring your electronic device with you throughout the house. Tackle one room at a time.

Begin the Inventory

If you can upload a video to the software (or just for your records), take five minutes or less to film the entire room, pausing on each possession while narrating what the object is, when you bought it, and approximately how much you paid for it. Be as honest and exact as you possibly can. Open drawers or doors to view contents.

Once the video is finished, it’s time to take still photos of each item. Include furniture, electronics, wall decorations, musical instruments, high-end clothing items, jewelry, and appliances. Take down make and model information, dimensions, and condition. Software programs have prompts that are easy to follow so you won’t have to guess what information is relevant to your insurer.

De-Clutter and Update

Taking a home inventory is a good method of identifying stuff you don’t actually need anymore. As you go room to room, write down any areas such as drawers or closets that will need future de-cluttering attention, including specific items you no longer wish to keep. Once the inventory is done, you can go back and clear out those items, giving or throwing them away as is appropriate. Update your home inventory, if necessary, to reflect the changes. Home inventory software makes this a very simple process. If, in the future, you acquire more items that need to be insured, you can update once again. Your insurance company can then tailor your policy to exactly suit your needs so that you are not paying a dollar too much or failing to insure possessions you would need to replace in the event of a tragedy.

How to Encourage Corporate Wellness

It’s important to understand why a company would even care about corporate wellness. What people want to do with their bodies is their own choice, right? Though this may be true, it may be beneficial to a company to help their employees make wiser and healthier decisions. Think about it. Healthy employees are going to take fewer sick days. They are going to have more energy and drive at work. They will be happier and thus, be easier to work with. Being healthy also reduces stress, which will help them feel more comfortable with their workload at work, leaving you with less turnover. So now that you know the benefits, here are a few ways you can encourage corporate wellness in your business.

Encourage Exercise

If you have an empty room in your office, it may do you some good to turn it into your own personal gym. Give your employees a chance to come early to work, stay late, or use their lunch break to break a sweat. If you can’t provide your own personal gym, help them stay fit by providing incentives. Have each employee track their exercise throughout each month and then give prizes and awards for those that are staying on track with their fitness.

Give Healthy Options

When it comes to work, the vending machine is a staple item. Most employees will take a few trips to the vending machine throughout the week. You want to give them their options, but also try to help them have a few more healthy options. Include fruit, water, trail mix, and other healthy things in with the candy bars and soda drinks. When they have these options available, they will be more likely to take them.

Invest in Long-Term Success

Let them know that you care not only about the present, but about their future health as well. Give them opportunities to be educated in healthy habits. Have a doctor come to your office on a regular basis to give them routine checkups and to answer any questions your employees may have. You can also provide weight-loss challenges to help your employees remember to stay healthy on a regular basis. Corporate wellness is a great thing for the company and for the individuals too.

The Tikker: Death Watch

Fredrik Colting invented this “The Happiness Watch'. This is a watch that can certainly motivate everyone to make every minute valuable. This watch is also known as the Tikker Watch or the "death watch". The inventor seek and find a way for people “to cherish the time and the life that we have been given, to honor it, suck the marrow from it, seize the day and follow our hearts. And the best way to do this is to realize that seconds, days and years are passing never to come again.”

The watch needs to be set up and this can be done by filling out a questionnaire with information about your medical history, weight, lifestyle details such as if you drink or smoke and how often you exercise. You will also be asked about the diseases that may run in your family. After all of these information are factored, you will be given a score pertaining to your lifespan including the years that you have already lived. Your current age will be deducted from this score, then the countdown begins.

The Tikker counts not only the years and months of your remaining life, but it also includes every minute and every seconds. The creators – “a group of designers, free-thinkers, lovers and life-aficionados” say “it’s not about how much time you HAVE, it’s what you DO with it. A week spent in love and happiness can be worth more than a year spent in agony. If you knew how much time you had left, wouldn’t you use that time wisely?” adding that “While death is nonnegotiable, life isn’t. The good news is that life is what you make of it – and oh boy can it be beautiful!”

You can get a Tikker of your own by making a preorder that cost $39 for the simple black design or $1,000 for a custom one in pantone color – limited offer only.

How a Dentist Can Improve Your Smile

Are you tired of your smile? Do you have crooked teeth, yellowing teeth, or problems with the gums? Seeking out a Genesis Dental dentist to improve your smile can prevent you from being embarrassed by your smile. Cosmetic dentistry treatments have completely transformed the way a person’s smile can look. A smile makeover can restore your confidence and give you the smile you have always wanted. Here are some of the popular treatment options for patients seeking improvements to their smile.

Teeth Whitening

One of the simple procedures is to undergo a teeth whitening treatment. Teeth whitening is easy to perform, as the dentist will use a chemical process to bleach the color of the teeth. They will create custom mouthpieces that hold the whitening solution in place during the procedure. Based on the color of your teeth, it may take multiple visits to the dental office before your teeth achieve the color that you have always wanted. After the appointment, it is up to you to make sure you are maintaining a healthy smile. Avoid foods that stain the teeth and cause the enamel to have problems protecting the teeth. Coffee, soda, and foods that are high in sugar can all cause numerous problems with the color of your teeth.

Dental Crowns

If you have teeth that are misshapen, severely damaged, or broken, a dentist will recommend dental crowns. A dental crown will simply replace the tooth, as it is a covering for the tooth. It protects the root of a tooth from further damage, and it can provide you with a new smile. The dental crown is essentially a perfect tooth, as the dentist can place it on the other tooth in a way that allows it to be straight. The dentist will also select a color that matches well with your smile. Like a traditional tooth, the crown will require daily brushing and flossing to continue protecting the tooth underneath.

Veneers

One other common treatment used in cosmetic dentistry is dental veneers. A Genesis Dental dentist will recommend using veneers if you have any of the following problems:

• Large spaces between teeth
• Chipped or worn teeth
• Teeth with severe staining
 • Poorly shaped teeth
• Crooked teeth

The veneers are a simple porcelain layering that is placed over the front of the tooth. It can quickly change the way your smile looks, boosting your confidence when you smile.

The Truth about Bridal Gowns

As you are looking for bridal gowns in Philadelphia, be sure to remember a few things: First, it’s all about you. Second, he’ll love it no matter what. Third, the options are endless. It’s easy to get sucked up in stress and panic about not finding the perfect gown at the first 30 stores you go to. Don’t let it wear you down. This is supposed to be a happy occasion. It's the happiest occasion of your life. Enjoy it. Embrace it. And bare in mind the following truths as you search for yours.

It’s All about You

This means it’s not about anyone else. Sure, family input is nice. Friends will have opinions that may prove useful. Still, there’s always that in-law or strong-willed somebody that wants to have the final say over your dress. Don’t let them. It’s about you. It’s all about you. It's your day. It's your dress. It's your say. You need to love it and feel beautiful in it and that is truly its only function and purpose for being. So smile and nod with other’s opinions. No need to get ruffled. But make your decision for you—because it is absolutely all about you.

He’ll Love It No Matter What

Trying to anticipate your groom’s reaction is pointless, really. The truth of the matter is that he will love it no matter what. And the reason for that is because he loves you. He will be so excited to see you walking down that aisle. He’s not thinking about your dress. He’s thinking about a million other things. He’s thinking about how lucky he is, how beautiful you are, how happy you both will be.

The Options Are Endless

Don’t get lost in the traditional way of thinking. If you really like traditional bridal gowns in Philadelphia, then definitely go for it. However, if you are not typically a traditionally minded person, it’s important to remember that there are so many different types and styles and ways of changing and tweaking your wedding dress to be exactly what you would like for it to be. So keep an open mind and listen to your heart.

Behind the Frozen Minnehaha Falls

This is what looks like behind the Minnehaha Falls in Minnesota, Minneapolis when it is frozen. This can be found near the entrance to Minnehaha Park, a 193-acre park divided into two main portions: an upper section above the falls which is kept trimmed and maintained like many other city parks, and the lower section which is largely left in a natural state and popular for free climbing due to the steep terrain.
Due to the extremely cold temperatures during the winter months, the waterfall is known to freeze, creating a dramatic cascade of ice that can last well into Spring. The falls are located in Minnehaha Creek, a tributary of the Mississippi River, close to where the creek meets back with the Mississippi.

Stunning Subarctic Photos

These photos were taken by photographer Dave Brosha in the subarctic. It was more than ten years ago when he and his wife moved in subarctic in search for an adventure. And they eventually fall in love with the beauty of the place. In taking photos of the place, he wanted to show the world that the subarctic is more than just a frigid world.

The artist is now residing in Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories of Canada. He is now more privy for remote and isolated places that are still untouched by human.

“The coldest day I ever had was 72-degrees Celsius below zero with the wind chill,” says Brosha, “I can’t count how many times I’ve gone out photographing in minus 40 or minus 50 degrees. It takes a special breed of person, I think, to live up here, but it’s one that grows on you very quickly. You experience lonely but fascinating conditions everyday, but it’s worth it when you look at what you capture. It’s beautiful.”

Snake Venom: The Strongest Beer

The strongest beer has an alcohol content of 67.5% by volume considerably more than whiskey or vodka, and called snake venom. This beer was produced by Scottish brewers Lewish Shand and John McKenzie. They came up with this idea when their previous strongest beer with 65% alcohol content was considered "too weak' by drinkers.

It was last year when Lewish Shand and John McKenzie of Brewmeister Brewery, in Banffshire when they produced Armageddon, the strongest beer in the world with 65% alcohol content. After more than 60,000 bottles of beers were sold, fans are disappointed and said that they don't believe that the beer has 65% alcohol. This is the main reason why they decided to create a new beer and after nine months, they were able to create the Snake Venom. “Snake Venom is definitely sharper in taste. With Armageddon, we actually tried to disguise the taste by making it quite oily,” Lewis says. The beer cost $81 per 275ml bottle.

Most Common Medical Supply Orders

You have probably noticed on your last emergency visit that the nurses unwrap brand new supplies just for you. They unwrap a sterile needle, they use a new morphine drip bag, and they put on brand new gloves. This may cause you to consider how many supplies a hospital goes through in one day, or how many supplies get used in hospitals across the country. Read on for more information about common things ordered from companies like Red Cell Medical Supply.

Intravenous Kits

It is almost automatic that you get an intravenous or IV drip when you enter the hospital. You’re also usually using one throughout the duration of a hospital stay. This type of kit has several components. First you’ll need a prep, scrub, and alcohol pad. This is to clean the site where the needle will be inserted. A PVP ampule will also be needed to protect against infection. You will also need gloves and a device to secure the needle in place. This also often includes tape to prevent movement. You may find that it is worth the money to purchase a whole kit, or you may want to buy the parts separately to assemble the kits yourself.

Dressing Change Kits

You may also need supplies for changing the dressing around a central line IV. It is important to have all the right equipment to minimize the risk of infection. Kits usually include a CSR wrap, a mask, gloves, alcohol and PVP swab sticks, and ointment. They also include sponge, gauze, non-adherent pads, tape, dressing, labels, and a tray that holds all of this. Some say that using a pre-made kit like this reduces the chances of infections being acquired.

Other Kits

Since there are so many different procedures, the different types of kits you can order from Red Cell Medical Supply are vast. You may consider a standard procedure kit, which may include gloves, cotton balls or swabs, gauze, and other tools. These kits could be used with procedures like incision and draining, or nose bleeds. You may choose to order the supplies you need separately on an as-needed basis, order in kits, or order in bulk.

The Enchanting $500 House Cabin

This house cabin located in the mountain of West Virginia was built by photographer Nick Olson and designer Lilah Horwitz. The house was entire made of disregarded windows that varies in sizes that gives an artistic and creative facade.

All of the materials were salvages from a nearby barn and it only cost them $500 to create the whole cabin and it took them several months to finish the cabin. "We were able to make it a reality because we are first artists and creators. We had to be resourceful to do it cheaply." But Olson and Horwitz don't live there year-round since their primary home is in Milwaukee but they visit the cabin when they need some time to escape and be in the heart of nature.

The Solar-Powered SuperTrees

Photo © Zaw Wai (flickr)

These photos are certainly not photoshopped since these are photos of the SuperTrees at Gardens by the Bay in Singapore. They are part of the so called vertical gardens. These tree-like structures measure 82 to 160 feet tall and are part of the $1 billion cutting-edge of the horticultural project for Singapore.

"It's pretty innovative stuff. The structures mimic the ecological functions of real trees through their environmentally sustainable features. Some have photovoltaic cells on their canopies to harvest solar energy to light up at night, others are integrated with cooled conservatories and serve as air exhaust receptacles", as CNN reported.

“I invented a way of fortunetelling using a chessboard set up to show the position of the stars in Thai-style astrology, as well as cards and feng shui, in which each star indicates your horoscope. The method was completed in 2010, and the first person I used it on was my husband,” she explains.

Her service for fortune telling cost B1,000 to B1,500 ($30 to $50). her clients can also apply for a year of subscription that cost $200. She will ask the client to pick five chess pieces and place them on the board. ach piece has its own meaning – the pawn is Venus which represents everything feminine, altruistic and open, while the horse is the Earth and represents the deceiving and working man. The King which embodies Jupiter, portrays a person with a cold, calculated and very rational personality while the Queen – Saturn, is all about passion and impulse. Although Ajarn doesn’t know the true rules of the game, she observes how her customers move the pieces on the board to determine future events in their lives.
