Montreal International Mosaicultures 2013

The Mosaïcultures Internationales Montréal 2013 – Land of Hope (MIM2013)will be on display at the Montreal Botanical Garden from June 22 to September 29, 2013. This 2013 edition will present over 50 creations from different 20 countries. The theme is the Land of Hope which pertains to raising awareness of the importance of preserving the richness of life on Earth. The City of Montreal has given the organizers of the event a green certification for having this kind of large event.

Mosaiculture is French term for the use of bedding plants 'like a mosaic' to form patterns. The patterns could be geometrical or representation. It is defined as the art of composing a motif, an image, a picture or a sculpture using carefully selected and pruned plants.

You can visit the exhibit if you are around the place and it is open seven days a week from 9am to 7pm.

A Dress Made From Flowers!

Lisa Dickinson is a florist and the owner of Manchester florist Venus Flowers. She and her team of four florist spent one whole week to come up with a beautiful gown made of flowers. The floral gown was worn by Boss Model Eleanor Davies during the opening of this year’s Dig the City festival. 

“The challenge was to keep the dress looking fresh for as long as possible, the trick to making the dress endure was to use flowers that wouldn’t wither and die after a few hours, so I made the full skirt of the dress out of wax flowers—which is a really tough shrub—but with delicate sprays of flower heads,” Lisa Dickinson explains.

“I must admit, when we got the brief to make the dress I was a little daunted about how to put it all together—but once we got started on the planning it was really liberating and hugely fun. It really stretching the boundaries of floristry, and it is thrilling to think creatively. You see the potential of flowers in another light,” Dickinson says. “Dig the City is such a great event for Manchester, the whole city; residents, businesses and shops should flower up – a greener city is something we can all get behind.”
